Photocatalyst has been used as a new material in China for nine years. It was first used in China during the SARS period in 2012. The only experiment of photocatalyst inactivation of r-virus was completed by the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with an inactivation rate of %. At the same time, it has a significant decomposition effect on formaldehyde, benzene, benzene series, sulfides, and ammonia compounds in the purification of various air pollutants.
Hazards of Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is a highly toxic substance and ranks second on my country’s priority control list of toxic chemicals. Formaldehyde has been identified by the World Health Organization as a carcinogen and teratogen, a recognized source of allergy and one of the potential strong mutagens. Research shows that formaldehyde has strong carcinogenic and cancer-promoting effects. The effects of formaldehyde on human health mainly include abnormal smell, stimulation, allergy, abnormal pulmonary function, abnormal liver function and immune dysfunction. When its concentration reaches .-./ per cubic meter of air, children will develop mild asthma. When the formaldehyde content in indoor air reaches ./, there will be odor and discomfort. When it reaches ./, it can irritate the eyes and cause tears. When it reaches ./, it can cause When the concentration of throat discomfort or pain is higher, it can cause nausea, vomiting, coughing, chest tightness, asthma, and even pulmonary edema, which can lead to death immediately. Through animal experiments, studies at the molecular biology level have confirmed the genotoxicity and carcinogenic effects of indoor formaldehyde pollution on the human body, the oxidative damage to cells caused by neurological and reproductive toxicity, the irritation of the eyes and airways, and the toxic reactions of the immune system.
As a sub-project of the National Tenth Five-Year Science and Technology Research Project on the Health Hazard Assessment Technology of Key Indoor Air Pollutants, Yang Xu and other researchers used simulated poisoning technology based on the general indoor formaldehyde pollution level in mg/m3 and mg respectively. /m3 gaseous formaldehyde-perfused mice developed neuronal edema and inflammation in the airways (nasal cavity and bronchi) observed via molecular biomarkers. When the formaldehyde exposure level increases, the blink frequency of the test volunteers increases accordingly, indicating that the higher the formaldehyde concentration, the more intense the irritation to the eyes. Using formaldehyde gas at a concentration of mg/m3 to expose mice for hours every day, researchers found antioxidant glutathione levels and superoxide levels in the brain, heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, testicles and other organs of mice. The activities of dismutase (D) and glutathione peroxidase have decreased, indicating that in addition to causing damage to the respiratory tract, formaldehyde can also cause oxidative damage to other organs or systems and is a systemic poison.
Experiments have confirmed that the irritating pollution of gaseous formaldehyde can also cause cell chromosome breakage, causing direct oxidative damage to D molecules, inhibiting D enzyme activity, making free radical scavenging unfavorable, and indirectly causing oxidative damage to D molecules and having potential carcinogenic effects. Reduced activity of antioxidant enzymes in brain tissue leads to slower clearance of free radicals and accumulation of large amounts, causing neuronal damage and neurobehavioral changes. In the water maze test of mice, the learning and memory abilities of mice in the formaldehyde-exposed group were significantly reduced compared with the control group. In addition, formaldehyde exposure can cause testicular damage in young mice and can also damage germ cells. It can also increase the level of formaldehyde-specific antibodies and reduce immunity, making the exposed subjects develop acquired allergies.
